Losing Ground: Gaviota short film

The Gaviota Coast Conservancy is pleased to share and celebrate the launch of the short film documentary, "Losing Ground", on urgent issues facing the Gaviota Coast. Created as a UCSB "Blue Horizons" environmental film project by filmmakers Trevor Lestak, Sara Battersby, Joseph Weston, Beverly Vasquez, and Brady Mears, the film interviews Gaviota Coast Conservancy board members Phil McKenna and Guner Tautrim, whose Orella Ranch features prominently. The filmmakers have granted us permission to share this treat here with you in its entirety... it's a delicious 14-minute look at a rare, unique and precious area of the world. The Gaviota Coast is also the north side of our grand Santa Barbara channel marine ecosystem. The Northern Channel Islands form the south rim of this Grand Canyon Under the Sea. What unimpeded development occurs along this beautiful shoreline will forever change for the worse the ocean health of our undersea treasures of the Santa Barbara Channel, just as has happened in the San Pedro Channel off shore the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
I grew up in San Pedro and witnessed the demise of the fantastic seashore ecosystem of the Palos Verdes Peninsula as well as the polluting of the San Pedro Channel. We can save this coast from the same sad fate. Lets do it!
