Trip Details

• Leave the Santa Barbara Amtrak Station, 209 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA at 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 14th, 2020.

• Two Santa Barbara AirBus charter buses drive to Guadalupe, CA with narration by Gaviota Coast experts about developments along the Gaviota Coast.

• In Guadalupe you select one of two optional activities: 

A one-hour visit to the Dunes Center!

See an exhibit about the ruins of Cecil B. DeMille's silent epic The Ten Commandments.

Ruins have been buried in the Guadalupe dunes since 1923!

The movie used 3500 actors and extras, 5000 animals, and 300 chariots. The film set is still the largest ever created.

Also view the scientific exhibits about the dunes.

A 45-minute visit to the serene Oso Flaco Lake!

A closed paved road leads to the Oso Flaco boardwalk which crosses the lake.

The boardwalk includes benches and several interpretive signs.

Expect to see waterfowl and wildlife and bring your binoculars.

• The entire top floor of the Business Class car on Pacific Surfliner # 796 from Guadalupe to Santa Barbara is reserved for our use for return.

  • You will see parts of Vandenberg AFB that can only be seen from the train.

  • The new Dangermond Preserve, a 24,000-acre ranch just south of Vandenberg will be pointed out

  • Wine, beer and snacks are included!
